It was a meeting of the minds (and the muscles) when a group of student athletes from Douglas High School’s Block D Letterman Club dropped their sports gear for an afternoon of connecting with the residents of The Chateau at Gardnerville.

The students spent the afternoon chatting with the seniors, breaking into groups to talk about everything from life experiences to everyday memories.

Douglas High teacher Eric Emm, the driving force behind this initiative, guided the group and helped make it a laid-back yet enriching afternoon for everyone involved.

“It’s always a great experience when different generations come together,” said Chateau Executive Director Katie Nichols. “Everyone benefits when people take the time to share and listen to one another.”

With graduation on the horizon, the kids will pause their visits for the summer. Returning students will resume their monthly visits in August, building on the relationships and moments that began earlier this year.

Block D does a variety of good works throughout the year, including raising money to go shopping for the Food Closet just before Thanksgiving.
