Genoa, Nev. — There’s a firefighting exercise going on around Sheridan this morning that will involve helicopter bucket drops and probably quite a bit of fire apparatus around there.


East Fork Fire Protection District is dedicating the Charles ‘Scott” Fraser Memorial Training Prop is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at East Fork Fire Station 14, 1699 County Road, Minden. Guided tours will be conducted of the structure designed to help train firefighters.


There are a bunch of things going on Saturday from Big Mama’s Show & Shine to events dealing with mental health in honor of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, and all.


I heard on Thursday that Big Mama’s already had 175 vehicles signed up for Saturday’s event in Lampe Park. I wager that number has grown since. The show is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and doesn’t cost anything to poke around.


Suicide Prevention Network and Partnership Douglas County are co-hosting a Mental Health Awareness Walk and Resource Fair at Minden Park on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at Minden Park.

The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high temperature around 71 degrees. The wind will be out of the north 5-10 mph, shifting to the northeast later this morning, with gusts of up to 20 mph.
