More than 200 people filled the CVIC Hall on Feb. 24 in support of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Advisory Council’s 20th anniversary.

Council member Rudy McTee said the hall was decorated by members’ wives.

“They did a beautiful job,” he said. “There hasn’t been one person I talked to since the event who didn’t enjoy themselves. We are very grateful to Woodett’s for everything they did for us, the sponsors and everyone who came out.”

Sheriff Dan Coverely said he was blown away by how successful the event was.

“I was expecting a few people and donors, but was surprised by the turn out,” he said. “It was a great event. We can’t thank everyone enough.”

Formed in May 2004, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Advisory Council is a non-profit organization consisting of community volunteers dedicated to supporting the Sheriff’s Office by hosting fundraising events, obtaining grants and private donations, which help fund education and training, technology resources, and other supplemental equipment. Visit www.sheriffscouncil.org for more information.

In the past the Douglas County Sheriff’s Advisory Council has supported the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, provided equipment such as drones, patrol vehicles, safety equipment, and more.

“The Sheriff’s department receives a fixed budget, so we rely on outside support for a lot of things we need and do, and the Advisory has been very supportive in helping with those costs,” said Coverely during a past interview with The Record-Courier on the drones the Advisory provided.

Rose bouquets from A Wildflower with K-9 stuffed animals were the centerpieces and the food was catered by Woodett’s Diner. There were 32 raffle prizes and 4 auction items. Bob Neamy was the announcer at the event.

Sponsors for the event included Guns N Ammo, Gar Stork, Howard Vipperman, Mike and Peggy Crowley, Horse Tales Publication, Carson Valley Country Club, Carson Valley Inn/Steakhouse, Carson Valley Currency & Coins Inc., Carson Valley Golf, A Wildflower Florist, Les Schwabs Tires, Woodetts Diner, Carson Valley Event Rentals, The UPS Store, Big O’Tires, The Chocolate Shoppe, Meeks Lumber & Hardware, Mike O’Connell, Cosmetic Medical Center, CV Flyte, Starbucks, Marie Hatter, Vogue Linen, Cisco Foods, Stonefly, Antique Society, Millennium Spa, Eldon Penner, Hooligan Ink, Silvera Carriage House, ABE Printing, and Gadzooks!
