Genoa, Nev. — Great Basin Brewing Co. is hosting a job fair 11 a.m.-5 p.m.  today at 1573 Highway 395 in MindenSeveral positions available. Come prepared with applicable resume, ready to fill out an application and participate in a quick interview.

Cyber Monday appears to have caught up and passed Black Friday in Douglas County, according to the Nevada Department of Taxation on Tuesday. Douglas residents purchased $11.6 million from nonstore retailers, while general merchandise stores came in a close second with almost $11.1 million during November 2023. Overall the county was up 7.9 percent for the month.

Early in-person voting continues 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Friday at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center. People may also drop off their ballots at the election tent behind the Minden Courthouse those hours. The roving ballot box is at the TRE Community Center 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at the Fish Springs Fire Station 3-6 p.m. today.

A winter storm warning for the Lake Tahoe Basin, Alpine and Mono counties is in effect 10 a.m. today to 10 a.m. Friday. Forecasters are predicting 10-20 inches of snow above 7,000 feet and 5-10 inches at Lake level. The evening commute over Kingsbury and Spooner could be a little slick today and Thursday morning.

The Minden to Reno corridor is pretty much the only place there isn’t a weather watch or warning of some sort. There’s a winter storm warning the entire length of the Sierra to the west and a lake wind advisory to the east.

The 12-year-old high temperature record for Jan. 30 fell on Tuesday when the temperature hit 65 degrees in Minden. That’s cooler than the 69 degrees reported for Jan. 29. I think the 72-degree record for Jan. 31 set in 1995 is safe, though the record highest low temperature of 40 degrees set in 1911, might be in trouble.

It was 54 degrees at Minden-Tahoe Airport at 6 a.m. today and the southeast wind was already blowing steadily at around 10-15 mph gusting toward 20 mph. The forecast calls for wind gusts out of the south up to 40 mph starting around 1 p.m. Expect cloudy skies and with some moisture maybe arriving after midnight tonight.
