Genoa, Nev. — County commissioners met for more than four hours on Tuesday as they heard presentations on the budget and got through the very first department budgets. Today’s meeting starts 10 a.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden. It’s being streamed at www.douglascountynv.gov click meetings and agendas for more information.

On Tuesday, East Fork Fire Protection District trustees heard a presentation on implementing new regulations for building in the wildland-urban interface. They also discussed the $26.8 million tentative 2023-24 budget.

Chains or four-wheel drive with snow tires are being required over Kingsbury and Highway 50 at Lake Tahoe. Chains or snow tires are required on Highway 395 through the Pine Nuts and then again south of Walker, Calif. There is a wind alert on the highway through Antelope Valley.

As unlikely as it seems, the snow at Lake Tahoe is going to start melting pretty soon, and in addition to the moisture locked up in the snowpack also coming down the drainages will be bears, or at least the ones who bothered to hibernate this winter.

It looks like Heavenly Mountain Resort topped region with a 111 mph wind gust around 12:50 p.m. Tuesday. The top wind gust in Douglas proper was 62 mph two miles south of Minden. Liberty Utilities recorded a 62 mph gust at Woodfords. There were a couple of 49 mph wind gusts recorded at Minden-Tahoe Airport on Tuesday. About a quarter inch of rain fell in Genoa.

We might see some snow showers after 3 p.m. today with the cloud cover increasing and the wind out of the southwest at 5-10 mph. There’s a chance for a snow surprise tonight, but not a good one. The high temperature is forecast to hit 43 degrees with the low at 24 tonight.
