Genoa, Nev. — A storm that took its sweet time arriving on Wednesday ended up leaving snow both high and low overnight. Douglas schools have canceled classes and state offices are closed, along with the University of Nevada, Reno.

There are road controls from top to bottom this morning covering every major route through Douglas County. National Weather Service Reno Meteorologist Edan Weishahn predicted this morning’s commute ranging from “sketchy to treacherous across the Sierra and Western Nevada.”

Topaz Ranch Estates resident John Flaherty reported getting 6 inches of snow in the storm, which is more than the 4 inches I received in Genoa.

I’m not seeing much on the calendar for today besides regular meetings of Kiwanis and Rotary in Minden. While those folks might be meeting today, I would check with their organizers, to be sure.

Douglas County reports that some of its offices may delay opening due to slick roads. Lyon County got socked by the snow squalls last night, and it’s shutting down. If I hear something about Douglas I’ll put it up.

The National Weather Service site for Minden is down, but the forecast discussion indicates clear skies today and dry conditions. I expect the high today will hit the 30s. Another storm is on the way Friday so that should warm things up a smidge with the high climbing to around 40 degrees.
