Genoa, Nev. — A quick response by Tahoe Douglas firefighters knocked down a fire on Holly Lane at Lake Village in around 12 minutes flat. Firefighters responded around 11:30 a.m. and called knockdown at 11:42 a.m.


No one was injured either in the home, which was on the top floor or among firefighters, according to Fire Protection District spokeswoman Michelle Turner. No cause has been released.


Wild horse advocates are urging the Douglas County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife to urge the state board to reject support for a letter seeking to reduce horse populations. The board meets 5 p.m. at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center Ceramics Room in Gardnerville.


The Douglas County Public Library is getting 22 free memory kits to help stimulate senior brains that people can check out. Acceptance of the donation from the Library Service and Technology Act is up for approval 10 a.m. today at the Library Board of Trustees meeting at the Minden Branch.  


Sheridan had the top wind speed of 68 mph at 11:30 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service, with Jacks Valley hitting 56 mph at 2:10 p.m. Genoa resident Dan Aynesworth reported a 41 mph wind gust around 5 p.m. Monday while Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin said he had a 43 mph just before 1 p.m.


It looks like today and Wednesday will be a good chance to round up the stuff that blew off the deck on Monday. The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 50 degrees. The wind will go calm late this morning.
