Storm rides in on gusty winds

The first flurries could be seen on the traffic camera at Daggett Summit on Kingsbury Grade around 4 p.m. today as a winter weather advisory continues in the Carson Range.

As the evening commute begins, chain controls are in effect over Mount Rose Highway.

A high-profile vehicle ban is in effect through Washoe Valley as high winds accompany the arrival of the storm.
An NV Energy wind gauge recorded a 54 mph gust in Jacks Valley at 3:10 p.m. Fish Springs recorded a 49 mph gust, while Minden-Tahoe Airport recorded a 37 mph gust.

According to the National Weather Service, winter driving conditions and gusty winds are expected in the Sierra before possibly affecting the morning commute the Western Nevada valleys.

Lower elevations are expected to see mostly rain overnight with some light snow as temperatures drop tonight.

Snowfall at rates of 1-2 inches are possible in the mountains complicating driving.
