Genoa ranchers named horse parade grand marshals

Ranch One’s Lisa Lekumberry, Sheri Walters, and Terri Billman are the grand marshals for the Invitational Horse Parade 2 p.m. April 27 at Genoa Western Heritage Days.

The second horse parade will feature Miss Rodeo Nevada, Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley and his wife Sarah, and the Nevada Division of the National Pony Express.

Western vendors and makers will have items for sale in the Trimmer Lot across from the Town Hall. A detailed schedule is on the Town website at bit.ly/GWHD.

At 11 a.m., the Genoa Courthouse Museum will unveil the Dat So La Lee basket, which will include a demonstration of basket weaving along with singers, dancers, and traditional prayers.  Admission fees for the museum have been waived for the day.

While the big concerts sold out within days of tickets going on sale, Nevada’s Oldest Town will feature free street performances through the day.

The Sierra Sweethearts, Jon & Betsy Elliott, Jakota Wass Band, Ten Dollar Pony, Those Windburn Brothers, Lost Reverends of the High Sierra, Carson Chandler, and Rough Edges, along witgh cowboy poets Tony Argento and Larry Maurice are scheduled to perform.

Chautauquan Kim Harris will portray Charley Parkhurst and the Children’s Chautauqua at 1 p.m. will perform in the Community Church.

The Western Heritage Fine Art Show takes place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 26 and 27 in the Masonic Hall, the Genoa Gallery, and the lawn in front of Mormon Station Historic State Park.

Trinity Seely will perform April 28 in Cowboy Church. The nondenominational services led by Reverend Patrick Jolly begin at 9 a.m. in the Town Hall.

Genoa Western Heritage Days is organized by the Friends of Genoa and sponsored by Daniel’s Restaurant, Ranch One, Heritage Bank, Carson Tahoe Health System, Carson Valley Health, Visit Carson Valley, Gillmor Coons Real Estate, Dorothy Gardner, Betsy Cooksey, Sherry Millichap, Jim and Nancy Turner, Lucette and Steve Simon, and many individual Heritage Sponsors. 1862 David Walley’s Hot Springs & Resort provides rooms for Town Hall concert performers.
