Genoa, Nev. — The smoke plume from the Quarry fire near Strawberry is continuing to pour into Douglas County. You could smell the wood smoke on Tuesday morning. Air quality at the Ranchos Aspen Park monitor is up to 67 or moderate.

The fire itself is up to 2,157 acres this morning growing 383 acres from Tuesday as forest managers promote the spread of the fire by igniting portions while the weather holds.

Highway 4 from Silver Creek Campground to Upper Cascade Creek Bridge over Ebbetts Pass is closed until 4 p.m. Thursday, according to the California Department of Transportation.

The University of Nevada, Reno Extension Douglas County’s 2023 Fall Harvest Festival is 5-7 p.m. today at Dangberg Historic Home Ranch, 1450 Highway 88, Minden.

ASPIRE Academy is conducting its career and college day 12:30-2:30 p.m. today at the Bently Campus, 1680 Bently Parkway off Buckeye Road in Minden.

Wind Down Wednesday is 4-8 p.m. today in Heritage Park in Gardnerville. Food trucks and music will be the order of the day.

I’m not at all confident that it’s going to freeze this weekend, with the possibility of rain and cloud cover preventing temperatures from dropping below 34 degrees. I’ve got a decision to make about whether to bring in the tomatoes or leave them to their fate.

Today the forecast calls for sunny skies and a high near 79 degrees with the wind out of the west at 10-15 mph. Tonight expect mostly clear skies with the low around 40 degrees.
