Saturday’s Market at Markleeville has been canceled due to a mandatory Highway 89 road closure by Caltrans.

“Unfortunately, due to the mandatory road closure of Highway 89 for the Highway 89 Bridge Reconstruction Project, we will be canceling Market at Markleeville scheduled for Oct. 14,” Public Information Officer JT Chevallier said.

The Highway 89 closure will require a detour through the market closure area on Montgomery Street.

“We explored all options, but unfortunately cancellation is the best and most prudent decision at this time,” Chevallier said. “We encourage visitors and locals to enjoy the Markleeville downtown during the closure and appreciate the public’s understanding.”

The market was a new effort this year by Sierra Chef’s Cynthia Ferris Bennet.

“We would like to thank all our attendees, visitors, and vendors for coming out to celebrate the community of Markleeville this season and we look forward to coming back bigger and better than ever in 2024,” Chevallier said.
