Minden Elementary School students and staff wore red, white and blue on Flag Day in honor of Wednesday’s fifth-grade patriotic performance.

“They did an amazing job and a huge round of applause to their fifth-grade teachers: Tracey Hall, Maddison Hukkanen and Rebecca Whitmore,” said Douglas County School District Spokeswoman Hailey Sebahar. “The whole school wore red, white and blue. She does it every year.”

Each child listed something patriotic based on the alphabet and sang patriotic songs, Sebahar said.

The Tahoe-Douglas Elks were scheduled to celebrate Flag Day on Friday with their annual ceremony that traces the history of the Stars and Stripes.

It is just over two weeks before the Fourth of July, which is on a Tuesday this year.

Patriotic events include Main St. Gardnerville’s annual 5K run in Heritage Park, which is raising funds for Wreaths Across America.

Genoa will be hosting its annual Americana Festival which opens with a parade and wraps up with a concert in Mormon Station State Historic Park. Minden will host its bike race and barbecue at Minden Park.

Fireworks will be at Stateline.
