It was bring your bike to school day at Trinity Lutheran Preschool Friday for a Trike-A-Thon event in support of St. Jude Children's Hospital

The event was a fundraising program that teaches bike safety while having fun and helping patients at the children’s hospital.

Trinity Lutheran Preschool Assistant Director Samantha Tierney said the center has participated in the Trike-A-Thon in the past raising over $600 at one event.

“This year, we had some technical difficulties with the link that was issued to us, so we unfortunately did not raise any money, but we went along with it anyways so our kids can learn about bike safety and have fun,” said Tierney.

For the week leading up to the Trike-A-Thon, children in each class at Trinity learned about safety rules, including wearing a helmet when riding a bike, to be careful around driveways and the street, and to always be aware of surroundings through lessons and a coloring workbook.

“We also talked about how it’s not just about having fun, but that we were helping another organization and talked about St. Jude,” said Trinity Lutheran Preschool Director Joanne Tabor.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital treats childhood cancer and other life-threating diseases with a mission to advance cures and prevention through research and treatment for every child in need regardless of race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

Many contributions and fundraising events like the Trike-A-Thon support the hospital’s mission.

According to the website any individual or organization can host a Trike-A-Thon or other fundraising events and receive educational resources and tools.

“It was so cute and fun to do,” said Tabor. “The kids had fun learning about bike safety all week and being able to show off their skills at the end.”
