Genoa, Nev., — The Share Your Christmas Drive-Through Food Drive at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden started at 6 a.m. today. Sponsored by Channel 2, the drive continues until 6 p.m. and benefits the Carson Valley Community Food Closet.

The Lake Tahoe side of Kingsbury Grade has an adverse driving warning at nvroads.com this morning. There are chain controls on Highway 88, Highway 50 and Interstate 80 crossing the Sierra. Monitor and Ebbetts were closed for the storm, according to CalTrans.

County commissioners decided not to decide on a merger between the Genoa Town Advisory Board and the Genoa Historic District Commission on Thursday, essentially telling town residents to work it out.

Carson Valley Pops is performing at the CVIC Hall tonight and Saturday, kicking off a weekend of music. Pick up tickets at gadZooks. Dougie L. is performing as part of Saturday’s Genoa Christmas Concert.

Carson Valley United Methodist Church in Gardnerville is hosting the Tahoe Symphony on Saturday, and the Chancel Choir Christmas Cantata is 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Balloon Nevada and Toys for Tots are hosting a toy drive on Saturday featuring free tethered balloon rides 7-10 a.m. Saturday, depending on the weather at their location south of Gardnerville. Balloon riders need to be 5 years or older. Bring an unwrapped toy for the drive which will be open until 1 p.m.

The weather on Saturday should be perfect for ballooning with still, clear, cool conditions. The forecast calls for sunny skies and a high of 40 degrees today and a light southeastern breeze this afternoon. Saturday will be pretty similar.
