Jacks Valley Elementary School has a new vice principal in Veronica Griffith, who brings 18 years of experience as an educator.

“Griffith began her education journey as a classroom teacher where she spent eight years nurturing a passion for learning among her students,” according to the Douglas County School District.

As a specialist in teaching English as a second language for 10 years, Griffith honed her skills in addressing diverse learning needs. Her ability to connect with students from various backgrounds, coupled with her effective teaching methods has made a lasting impact on school families.

Griffith holds two master’s degrees, including one in curriculum and instruction from Chapman University and a second in educational leadership from American College of Education.

“Griffith is a driving force behind creating a dynamic and nurturing learning environment,” school officials said. “Her dedication extends to supporting students, families and staff as they work toward achieving their academic goals.”

Douglas County student meal applications still open

With the first week of school completed, families are reminded that meals for Douglas County students are free and applications for the program are still being accepted.

Douglas County School District participates in the National School Lunch and Breakfast program which allows one breakfast and one lunch daily for every student regardless of families’ income.

The district strives to offer students meals that not only encourages a healthy eating pattern, but also appeals to what students would like to eat.

All meals are consistent with the Dietary Guideline for Americans and meet the National School Lunch and breakfast program requirements for various nutrients, calories, fat and saturated fat.

Director of School Nutrition Jordy Foster said Free and Reduced Price Meal applications are still being processed and families are encouraged to fill them out.

“Meals are free to all students in the district,” she said, “but filling out an FRL application can provide additional benefits such as backpack buddies, waived testing fees, summer school fees and other programs our community partners with, to those who qualify with a FRL acceptance letter.”
