Genoa, Nev. — County commissioners are scheduled to discuss County Manager Patrick Cates’ resignation and could appoint someone to the position today. Both Assistant County Manager Jenifer Davidson and Chief Financial Officer Terri Willoughby have expressed an interest in the top spot.

Commissioners are also scheduled to discuss waiving Community Development fees for those affected by the March flooding. The commission meets 10 a.m. at the Douglas County Courthouse in Minden.

Speaking of Minden, the sponsors of a bill that would fine the town $50,000 every time the siren goes off made it quite clear they were not onboard with the compromise reached in summer 2021 to move the sounding to 5 p.m. Senate Bill 391 was not passed out of committee on Wednesday, but likely will at some point after it’s amended.

About 40 people turned out to the Indian Hills General Improvement District meeting on Wednesday only to have the dog park tabled because two board members couldn’t attend. They took public comment on the issue with around 10 speaking against the dog park and two or three in favor.

A temporary closure on Kingsbury Grade on Monday was a commercial filming operation that involved brief traffic stops, according to NDOT.

The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high near 57 degrees with a light breeze out of the south at 5 mph. There’s a slight chance of rain or snow showers in the forecast for Friday morning, which will slow down the warm-up a bit.
