The second red flag warning in 2022 has been issued for 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday for an area including Carson Valley north to the Oregon state line.

The warning was issued at 10:22 a.m. Friday for the entire Northern Sierra Front in northwest Nevada and northeast California.

Southwest winds of 15-25 mph gusting to 30-40 mph with stronger gusts of up to 60 mph across ridgetops are possible, the National Weather Service reported.

“The combination of gusty winds and low humidity can cause fires to rapidly grow in size and intensity before first responders can contain them,” forecasters said.

Outdoor activities that can cause a spark near dry vegetation should be avoided.

Minden is forecast to be sunny on Saturday, with a high temperature of 97 degrees and winds out of the south 5-10 mph, shifting southwest 10-15 mph, gusting to up to 30 mph at times into the night.

Depending on local conditions, NVEnergy may conduct a power safety outage along the foothills should it appear high winds will cause sparks that could set a wildfire.

A heat advisory is in effect for most of Western Nevada through 9 p.m. Sept. 6 with high temperatures forecast to hit 99 degrees Sunday and Monday, and then drop to 98 degrees on Tuesday.

The first red flag warning of 2022 was issued for July 17.
