Genoa, Nev. — There’s reportedly a bear raiding garbage cans in Kingslane this morning in Gardnerville. A dead bear was found along Orchard on Saturday morning that was presumably hit by a vehicle overnight on Friday.


The Good Governance Group is hosting a debate for the six school board candidates 6 p.m. today at the Douglas County Community & Senior Center. Former R-C Publisher Pat Bridges is moderating.


Genoans will discuss work on the Town Church foundation at their meeting 5:30 p.m. in the Town Hall. They’ve got money to do a study fixing it, but after going under the church, townspeople would rather spend that on the repairs.


Minden’s tackling a couple of events for next year, including the Esmeralda Farmers Market and a Hope Floats Balloon Festival for the Douglas Center for Hope and Healing. The town board meets 5:30 p.m. today in the CVIC Hall.


I toured the events center on Tuesday with about 20 folks from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Workers have until Oct. 15 to do the dirt work around the center before TRPA calls time for the winter.


High pressure continues to dominate our weather, bringing highs in the 80s and lows in the 40s, but there may be a change the middle of next week with a chance we might see our first serious freeze.


Today expect sunny skies and a high temperature near 82 degrees. The wind is forecast to pick up out of the north at 5-10 mph in the afternoon.
