The Douglas High swim and dive team poses for a photo at the Class 5A state swim and dive meet in Las Vegas last weekend.
Douglas High sophomore Allen Baker backed up his Class 5A regional diving title with a Class 5A state diving championship.
In the 1-meter diving competition, Baker put together a final score of 405.20 to win the event and pick up nine in the process.
Junior Grant Gomes scored a 329.90 to take third for the Tigers in the same event.
For the Tiger swim team, Barrett Lee was eighth in the girls 200-yard individual medley 2:18.08.
Calvin Stevenson finished seventh in the same event on the boys’ side in a time of 1:58.53. Stevenson put together a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle 48.47.
Jesse LoPresto capped his senior season with a third place finish at the state meet in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.78 while Matthew Beam was eighth in 23.05.
LoPreso swam the 100-yard butterfly for the Tigers as well, taking seventh in 52.34.
Douglas’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Beam, Stevenson, LoPresto and Cooper Yturbide finished third in 1:30.35.
As a team, the Douglas boys were fifth in the state with 47 team points while the Tiger girls finished 15th with three points.
Carson swimmers end year at state
The Carson High swim team had both the boys and girls put together top finishes at the state meet last weekend in Las Vegas.
The Senator boys were fourth with 48 team points while the girls took sixth with 24 points.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Alexandra Llamas-Cruz and Talia Thornburg were seventh and eighth, respectively.
On the boys’ side of the same event, senior Nick Melsheimer finished in fourth in 1:44.34.
In the 50-yard freestyle Cole Bennett and Austin Shim were fifth and seventh, respectively, finishing within six-tenths of a second within one another.
In the 100 butterfly, Melsheimer finish in 50.8 seconds to claim fourth place for the Senators.
The boys 200-yard freestyle relay team was fourth in 1:30.44 between Bennett, Shim, Melsheimer and Benjamin Kahue.
Alexandra Nerska took home fourth place in the girls’ 100-yard breast stroke for the Senators in 1:07.39.
The Carson girls 400-yard freestyle relay team of Thornburg, Llamas-Cruz, Brynn Russell and Arene LeBlanc touched the wall in sixth place.
For the same event, the Senator boys’ team of Asher Kiel, Lief Morway, Shim and Todd Gosselin were fifth in 3:24.36.
