Genoa, Nev. — A fire weather watch goes into effect 1-10 p.m. Saturday with gusty winds and low humidity for much of the Sierra Front, including Carson Valley. Single-digit humidity and southwest winds gusting 30-40 mph could morph into a red flag warning at some point over the next few days.


Newly formed Tahoe Douglas Neighborhood Group spokeswoman Linda Dengler said her efforts to get the Vacation Home Rental ordinance repealed in Douglas County may include a petition to county commissioners. Commissioners plan to discuss the possibility of repealing the ordinance at a Lake Tahoe meeting this fall.


The VHR Advisory Board met for three hours on Wednesday, including an appeal of the revocation of a permit on Jeff Lane. The advisory panel voted to take no action and let the county appeal process go forward. A Tier 3 permit on Tramway was tabled and one on Barton Court was rejected.


We got a little clarification on when two lanes of Highway 89 are open on Wednesday. The road is open in both directions 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday and 4 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. It will be down to one lane the rest of the time as CalTrans cleans up after the Millberry Creek washout.


Stage 3 drought restrictions were approved last week for the Uppaway Water System serving 32 homes from wells fed by Lake Tahoe through infiltration. Those wells are having trouble keeping up with the roughly 64,000 gallons a month per home the neighborhood uses for landscaping, county officials said.

The official high temperature in Minden hit 98 degrees on Wednesday, 2 degrees short of the 100-degree record set in 1931. Today’s record temp of 101 degrees was set in 2010.


We might see high temperatures cool off a little bit starting today as the high is forecast to hit 94 degrees with the wind 10-15 mph in the afternoon. The front will bring highs down to the 80s.
