Genoa, Nev. — It’s snowing and there are chain controls over the top of Kingsbury Grade this morning, along with many other mountain locations, including over Spooner, around north Lake Tahoe and over Echo Summit and Luther Pass.

The Nevada State Police are reporting a property damage collision on Highway 28 two miles north of the Carson-Douglas line. Expect slick roads in the mountains today. Check nvroads.com or call 511 to check on conditions before you head up.

The promise of a winter storm warning that is in effect in the Sierra through lunchtime Friday looks like it could deliver a good portion of the forecast 1-2 feet in the Carson Range and up to 30 inches along the crest. Forecasters are calling this the most active storm of the year, so far.

Douglas County commissioners are scheduled to discuss appointing two members to the Audit Committee at their meeting 10 a.m. today in Minden. County Manager Patrick Cates’ performance review is scheduled for today. Commissioners meet at the historic Douglas County Courthouse, 1616 Eighth St., Minden. Visit douglascountynv.gov and click on agendas for more information.

There’s a fairly short agenda today, so commissioners might hurry to finish in time to get to the Douglas County Community & Senior Center in Gardnerville to see Sen. Ted Cruz and Adam Laxalt around lunchtime.

The community center will be hopping with the return of the Business Showcase 3-6 p.m. today. Wednesday’s R-C has a section devoted to the Showcase, and you can find them on stands now, only a buck.

The wind advisory remains in effect in Carson Valley through 1 p.m. As of 6 a.m. Fredericksburg resident Jeff Garvin said he has .12 inches of rain so far. A mile north of Genoa, my gauge is reading .13, and it’s still coming down.

Showers are supposed to stick around until 11 a.m. and then resume around 2, according to the forecast. The snow level is at 5,900 feet with the high today climbing to 54 before dropping below freezing tonight. We could see some light snow tonight through 11 a.m. Friday.
