After interviewing the sole candidate for the job of Douglas County Librarian, library trustees decided to go back to the drawing board on Tuesday.

Indiana resident James Agee Jr. was the last candidate standing and found himself having to talk for nearly an hour at Monday evening’s meet and greet.

He was interviewed on Tuesday morning, but after that session, members of the Douglas County Library Board of Trustees decided against extending an offer.

Trustees are scheduled to talk about the recruitment process at their Nov. 23 meeting.

A second candidate, James K. Britsch, who is director at North Logan City Library in Logan, Utah, dropped out of contention for the position.

Library trustees originally wanted to hire someone internally but ended up advertising nationally for a candidate.

Agee has a masters of library science and talked about the many places around the world he’d worked, including Bermuda, Kazakhstan and Cambodia.

Candidate finalists were screened and interviewed by panels On Oct. 12 and 14.

The position pays $87,380-$109,220 depending on experience.
