American Roots celebrated in Genoa on Saturday

An American Roots Celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa.

Admission is free.

Throughout the day, there will be displays and demonstrations of weapons and early American clothing and uniforms. Performances of period music.

Participating organizations will include the following historical education organizations: Sons of The American Revolution, Battle Born Patriots Chapter; Society of Mayflower Descendants In The State of Nevada; The Jamestowne Society; The Holland Society of New York; Colonial Dames XVII Century; Daughters of Union Veterans of The Civil War, Johana Shine Tent No. 96; Sons of Union Veterans of The Civil War, Gen. Wm. Carlin Camp No. 25; Daughters of The American Revolution, Sagebrush Chapter, Battle Born Chapter, John C. Fremont Chapter and Washoe Zephyr Chapter; Children of The American Revolution, Ft Churchill Society; Truckee Meadows Community College Genealogy Lab; Douglas County Historical Society; Order of Founders & Patriots; and Flagon & Trencher

Organizing the event is the Battle Born Patriots Chapter of the Sons of The American Revolution.

The Chapter, chartered in 1910, is a member of SAR chapters from around the world. Membership is made up of men who are direct descendants of patriots who fought in or aided the American cause during the Revolutionary War.

Other participating organizations, like the SAR, are nonprofit, charitable organizations that share similar goals.

“Except the Flagon & Trencher members who descend from colonial tavernkeepers; although it is important to note that most of American history was first conceived in, you guessed it, taverns,” organizers said.
