Douglas volleyball gets road game, smoke disrupts everything else

 The Tiger volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Huskies of Reno Thursday night.
Reno took down Douglas 25-13, 25-15, 25-20 to win the first contest of league play for either squad to start the 2021 fall schedule.
Emma Glover and Mia Bertolone led the passing attack for the Tigers with 11 and nine assists, respectively.
Sofia Kolbe led the team with 12 digs while Suzy Berger had a team-high seven kills.
Bertolone, Kolbe, Addy Doerr and Marin Collins each taalied five kills for Douglas.
UP NEXT: Douglas will travel to Bishop Manogue on Thursday to take on the defending regional champs.


Smoke, COVID continues to wreak havoc on prep sports schedule
As Northern Nevada continues to sit in the smoke from various wildfires, the prep sports schedule continues to take a hit.
After cancelling its contest with Wooster due to COVID testing with the Colts, Carson High football scheduled a contest at Fernley for 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
The two squads were supposed to play Friday night, but the game was moved to Saturday morning due to smoke.
After an initial postponement, Carson High girls’ soccer will not play at Spanish Springs on Monday.
The Senators were originally supposed to play the Cougars at home last Tuesday before moving the contest on the road Thursday, due to smoke.
The boys’ soccer team was unable to start its season Wednesday at Hug, due to smoke.
Outside of the Tiger volleyball team playing at Reno, no varsity Douglas athletic events were held over the course of the last week.


Dayton volleyball starts year 2-2
The Dust Devil volleyball team defeated Coleville, Calif., and Eureka in its home tournament last Friday.
Dayton fell to Spanish Springs, 2-0, and Elko, 2-1, on the following day.
Through the opening four contests, Kelsea Frobes has been the leading attacker for the Dust Devils with a team-high 11 kills.
Sophomore Ayisha Agee is right behind Frobes with 10 kills of her own. Agee also leads the team in digs with 17 early on in the year while junior Kassandra Miller has a team-best 12 assists.
