Sept. 11 marks 20 years since terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center and damaged the Pentagon in an attack that shocked the nation.

By happenstance, the Sierra Nevada Republican Women were hosting a dinner on Sept. 12, 2001.

After the scheduled guests were grounded by travel restrictions, the gathering became an opportunity for residents to talk about what happened the previous day.

Next month, on Sept. 12, the club will host it’s 9/11 Patriot Day Dinner at the Carson Valley Inn.

“(The club) has observed what is now known as Patriot Day continuously since the life-changing occurrences on 9/11/2001,” organizers said. “These observances have paid tribute to those who gave their lives and to those who helped to deal with the trauma and its aftermath.”

Speaking at the dinner will be High Sierra Fellowship Senior Pastor Rich Lammay, who provided counseling at ground zero. Retired Nevada Civil Air Patrol Lt. Col. Brad Spires, who managed the developing situation as it affected Douglas County, is also scheduled to speak.

Dinner guests may select from prime rib, filet of sole, or mushroom ravioli. The dinner ticket price is $50, and no tickets will be sold at the door. Local businesses and community members have donated a wide selection of silent auction items to be offered at the dinner. Doors open at 5 p.m. — dinner served at 6 p.m. Make reservations and dinner selections online. Go to the Events tab at the club's website, www.sierranevadarepublicanwomen.com. Fo additional ticket information contact SNRW at email address, sierranvrepwomen@gmail.com. The reservation deadline is Sept. 3.
