Two-thirds of Douglas voters have cast a ballot

Slightly more than two-thirds of Douglas County’s registered active voters have turned out already in the 2020 General Election.

The Clerk-Treasurer’s Office reported Thursday night that 9,307 people have voted in person and 16,035 have returned their mail-in ballot in one way or another.

According to the most recent count of active registered voters, that means 25,342 out of 37,770 have already cast a ballot.

Of the mailed ballots people sent in the clerk reports 165 require signature fixed of some sort.

Anyone who received a letter from the county saying there’s a problem with their ballot can fix it at the Election Tent on Monday or Tuesday.

Voters who either dropped off or mailed the ballots they received in the mail, can check on the status of the ballot at www.ballottrax.net

Nevada allows people to register to vote up until Election Day, and 154 new Douglas County voters registered and cast their ballot, so far.

Voters who register and vote on Tuesday will have their votes counted after the Douglas County Clerk-Treasuer’s Office verifies they haven’t voted somewhere else. Casting more than one ballot, or voting in more than one jurisdiction could result in criminal charges.

The Election Tent will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday for voters to register, drop off a ballot or replaced damaged ballots. The polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Douglas County, Washoe Tribe, Kahle and Topaz Ranch Estates community centers.

Ballots residents received in the mail may be dropped off at any of those locations, along with the Election Tent.

While preliminary results will be announced Tuesday night for Douglas races, those results may change as residents who mailed their ballots in on Election Day arrive at the Clerk’s Office. All ballots must be postmarked Nov. 3 to be counted. The clerk’s office mailed out ballots to all active voters on Sept. 24.
