Giving thanks for Trick or Treat Street support

Editor:

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank everyone in the community who came out to the Douglas County Fairgrounds for trick or treating at our Annual Halloween Trick or Treat Safety Street event. We had over 1,000 Douglas County children come through our Halloween maze and visit our treat stations. We gave away a total of 20 bikes, scooters, skateboards, & radio flyers, as well as 600 books. We believe in a fun and safe environment for Douglas County kids to trick or treat. Sheriff Coverley would like to personally thank all the volunteers and support from our community businesses and non-profits, who make this event a success. Recognizing those daily miracles

Editor:

This is a true story and it happened to me. It’s about my tireless search for Lysol. It’s the only cleaner I’ve used long before COVID-19. I have 3 bottles: 2 in bathrooms and 1 in the kitchen. I’d been looking for weeks and was starting to panic. I just couldn’t bring myself to buy Pine Sol or Mr. Clean. I’m a purist when it comes to cleaning. Only Lysol won’t make me gag. I’d been to Costco, Home Depot, ACE, Raley’s, Smith’s and Walmart in Gardnerville. But to no avail. I just happened to be in the Carson City Walmart and thought “what the heck I’ll see if they have Lysol.” I looked down the cleaning aisle and as usual it was rows of empty shelves. I don’t know what drew me but I looked anyway. In the middle of those empty shelves was one lone bottle of Lysol. I looked in disbelief and grabbed it. You’d have thought I’d just found liquid gold. Out of my mouth in the middle of that empty aisle I shouted out “IT’S A MIRACLE!” I should have taken a picture but was so shocked at the moment the thought never entered my mind. Besides who’d believe me. They’d say it was a set up. The memory is glued in my mind and makes me smile every time I think of it. And that’s better than any pic I could have ever taken. I do believe in miracles. I’ve had two in my lifetime, the first one is another story for another time. These last nine months have been trying for all of us. But I think we all have had a miracle of some kind in our lives in these last months. I for one could use more smiles. So please everyone, share your miracles. We need them more than ever.
