It’s all treats this Halloween

A whole passel of costumed children got a jump on Trick or Treating for a special Halloween-themed Toddler Time on Thursday morning.

With only eight days left before All Hallows’ Eve, hundreds of children made their way around the Douglas County Community & Senior Center.

On Thursday afternoon, Carson Valley Community Food Closet and Family Support Council hosted a Costume Patch for children 15 years and younger.

What would Halloween be without pumpkins, event those made from socks?

That and a history scavenger hunt were the highlights of a free children's craft and learning event 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park.
“The scavenger hunt sends participants around the park to its various historic buildings, following clues that teach about Douglas County history and agriculture, drawing comparisons and making connections between life today and in the past,” organizers said. “Small prizes will be awarded to everyone who completes the hunt.”
Genoa artist and writer Alma Buehlmaier led a crafts activity for children, using socks and other materials to make pumpkin-themed art. Participants may keep their creations.
The park is located at 1450 Highway 88, a half mile south of Douglas High School.

Anyone interested in interacting with real pumpkins, can visit the Corley Ranch’s annual Pumpkin Patch & Harvest Festival 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. Weekends are $10 and include a variety of ranch-themed events, including pig races, hay wagon rides and the corn maze. Visitors can fire three apples from the giant sling shot for $1 and ride the train for $2. Weekdays are $5, but without the races, slingshot or wagon ride. Friday marks the first of the last three nights of Fright at the Fairgrounds hosted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The haunted house is 3-9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. The Not So Scary is $5 for kids and $10 for adults and the Full Scare is $20.

Trick or Treat Safety Street is Halloween at the Douglas County Fairgrounds from 3-8 p.m., sponsored by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. The cost is $5. There will be prizes for best child, teen and family costumes.

The Minden branch of the Douglas County Public Library is hosting a  Storytime 10:30-11:30 a.m. Halloween for children age 4 and under. After Storytime, there will be Trick-or-Treat around the library

We will also have Trick-or-Treating for all ages from 3-6 p.m. and READing Paws from 3:30-5 p.m.

The Record-Courier’s annual Halloween coloring contest wrapped up on Friday. Winners should expect to hear from the newspaper. They will be announced on Oct. 28.
