Prep roundup: CHS softball suffers tough loss against state champ

The Carson High softball team went toe-to-toe with defending state champion Spanish Springs in Sparks on Wednesday before the Cougars scored three runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 4-1 win.

Kedra Luschar singled, stole second and third and scored on an error to give Carson a 1-0 lead in the first. But the Cougars’ Tyra Clark had Carson in check the rest of the way, pitching a complete game four-hitter while striking out 12.

Jaliene Salcido pitched a complete game for CHS, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking one over six innings. Camryn Quilling, Shannen VonDuering and Amaya Mendeguia all also had a hit for the Senators.

Fallon 7, Dayton 5

The Dust Devils sustained their second straight close loss to Fallon when the Greenwave scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. Dayton had scored three runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score 5-5. Julie Rogacs’ homer helped spark the rally. Rogacs went 2-for-3 to lead Dayton.
