Fallon hosts final meet with regionals in sight

Northern teams from all but the 4A converge in Fallon in less than three weeks when a berth to the state meet in Las Vegas is on the line.

The Greenwave track and field team has positioned itself with several in the top four while several are fighting for better marks with only two weeks left in the regular season. Fallon hosts the Conclave of Awesomeness on Wednesday at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex at 1 p.m. The meet, which is also Senior Day for Fallon, provides surrounding schools with an opportunity to improve on their times and distances.

Colton Peterson leads the league in both the 100 and 200 with best times of 10.91 and 22.05, respectively. Sophomore Jonathan Cisneros sits in fourth at 11.53. Also in the 200, junior Zeke Washington is in sixth at 23.66 – 0.26 seconds away from the fourth spot. Washington is third in the 400 at 54.10. Fallon has no distance runners within qualifying reach.

Senior Trevor East is second in the 110 hurdles at 16.26, almost a full second behind Fernley’s Nicholas Bernardo for first. Senior Reid Clyburn sits in seventh at 17.95 and needs to shave 1.33 to be in the top four. In the 300, though, Clyburn is second behind Bernardo (42.33 to 42.00).

Although it’s a different team than last year’s record-breaking bunch, this year’s 4x100 team of East, Peterson, Clyburn and senior Angelo Vann is first at 43.87, which they recorded in last weekend’s Carson Invitational. The 4x200 team of Cisneros, East, Peterson and Tristen Mathisen is second at 1:35.36. The 4x400 team of Mathisen, Washington, Bryan Duenas and Jhadiel Robles is third at 3:44.03.

In the jumps, Vann needs to climb two more inches to reach the top four at 5-10. Robles is No. 3 in the long jump at 20-1.5 while a trio of Wave jumpers sit in fifth through seventh with East at 19-11.75, followed by Cisneros and Duenas. The mark for No. 4 is at 20-0.75.

In the triple, though, East holds the top spot at 42-8.5 followed by Duenas at 40-10.25. Vann is fourth at 39-11 and Robles is sixth at 39-5.75.

For the girls, freshman Savanna Regli clocked in at 12:33.04 in the 3200 and is four seconds from the top four. Freshman McCartney McAlexander is second in the 100 hurdles at 17.64 and eighth in the 300 at 52.46, needing to shave almost three seconds to be in the top four.

The 4x100 relay team of Glenda Lee, Allie Lister, Tiffany Sorensen and Aisha Sharron recorded a 54.94 in the Carson Invitational and they sit in fifth, 0.17 seconds from fourth. The 4x400 team of Zoey Brown, Jacilyn Cathey, Makayle Mathisen and McAlexander sits in fifth at 4:37.43 and needs to shave about a second to place in the top four.

In the shot put, freshman Madeline Stephens is second at 33-2 and Sorensen is fourth at 31-4. Sorensen is tied for second in the discus at 110-9 and Stephens needs 17 feet for top-four status. In the high jump, Sharron is in second at 5-even and Lister is tied for second in the pole vault at 10 feet. Lee is six inches from the top four at 9 feet.

Sharron leads the triple jump at 33-10.5 and is fourth in the long jump at 15-4.25. McAlexander is fourth in the triple at 30-6.5.
