The Carson High softball team scored early and often on its way to a doubleheader sweep at Galena on Saturday. CHS won the opener, 14-2, and the nightcap, 18-3, to improve to 10-3 in the Northern 4A.
Jailene Salciedo drove in five runs on two home runs in the opener for Carson. Salciedo hit a two-run homer in the top of the first as the Senators scored eight runs to jump out to an 8-0 lead. Salciedo hit a three-run homer in the fifth as Carson scored six runs to take a 14-2 lead.
Bella Kordonowy, Kedre Luschar, Caydee Farnworth, Shannen VonDuering, and Camryn Quilling also drove in runs in the first for CHS.
Caydee Farnworth pitched a complete game for the win in the game that was called after five innings due to the mercy rule. Farnworth allowed just one hit and struck out seven.
Carson had 14 hits. Salciedo, Kedra Luschar, Kailee Luschar, Farnworth and VonDuering all had two hits for CHS. Carson also didn’t commit an error
Kordonowy had three hits and four RBI in the nightcap for Carson. Kordonowy hit a two-run home run during a five-run fifth as CHS took an 11-1 lead.
She added a two-run single in the sixth as the Senators scored seven runs to take an 18-3 lead. Kedra Luschar and Kassidy Cooley also both hit two-run homers in the sixth.
Salciedo was the winning pitcher for Carson, allowing two runs on five hits over four innings while striking out five and walking one. Starting pitcher VonDuering allowed one run on zero hits over two innings for CHS. Salciedo also hit a two-run homer in the third to give Carson a 4-1 lead.
CHS banged out 19 hits. Cooley, Kordonowy, Kedra Luschar, Salciedo and Quilling all had three hits while Kailee Luschar and Amaya Mendeguia added two hits for the Senators.
Carson ran wild in the game with nine stolen bases, led by Kailee Luschar, who had three stolen bases, and Lauren Hawkins, who stole two bases.
Dayton sweeps North Valleys
Marissa Hein had a big day for Dayton, compiling seven hits over two games as the Dust Devils rolled to a doubleheader sweep of North Valleys, winning the opener 15-0 and the nightcap 16-6.
In the opener Hein went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Dayton scored 11 runs in the first inning to take an 11-0 lead. Also for Dayton, Aleea McGill-Howe went 3-for-3 with two RBI, Tamia Powell doubled and Amanda Woitas, Gabrielle Dickenson and Shaye Thompson all added a hit.
Caleigh Onstott pitched a complete game three-hit shutout for the win.
In the nightcap, Hein had four RBI on three hits to lead Dayton to the win. Hein had a two-run double in the second as Dayton scored 10 runs to take a 13-4 lead. Hein had two doubles in the game.
During the 10-run second, Onstott also had a two-run double, Elizabeth Vincent and Alissa Patterson each had two-run singles and Thompson forced in a run with a walk,
Onstott was the winning pitcher for Dayton, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out three and walking none over two innings. Julie Rogacs also homered for the Dust Devils. Rogas and Vincent each had two hits for Dayton.

Reed 9, CHS 3
Delsin Roberts went 2-for-3 in Carson’s loss at Reed on Saturday. CHS hosts Spanish Springs at Ron McNutt Field on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
