Coronado leads after first day of state golf at Eagle Valley West

Coronado has the first day lead after carding a 317 at the first day of the NIAA 4A State Golf Championship on Eagle Valley’s West course.

Coronado leads Bishop Gorman by 16 shots. Palo Verde is third at 360, Reno is fourth at 361, Spanish Springs is fifth at 379 and Green Valley is sixth at 431.

Wet weather played havoc with scores. Only three players — Hunter Pate of Bishop Gorman (74), Coronado’s Victoria Estrada (75), and Palo Verde’s Annick Haczkiewic (79) — broke 80.

Pate carded three birdie and three bogeys on the front, and one birdie and two bogeys on the back.

Reno’s Abby Fleiner, Spanish Springs’ Emma Gilmore and Gabby Denunzio tied for third with 80.

The 36-hole tournament continues today at 10 a.m., and there is no admission.
