BLUE JAYS GO 5-0

The Carson Blue Jays capped a perfect High Sierra Classic with an 11-8 win over the Galena Cubs Sunday afternoon at Bishop Manogue High School.

Carson went 5-0 in the tournament and is now 17-6 in summer play heading into the final two weeks of the season.

Most of the damage buy both teams was done early. Galena scored five of its eight in the first two innings, while the Blue Jays scored all of their runs in the first three innings.

After Galena jumped out to a 2-0 lead, Carson tied it on a two-run homer by Kyle Krebs.

Carson starter John Holton gave up three more in the second, but his teammates helped him out with an eight-run outburst in the second as 12 Blue Jays came to the plate.

Bryce Moyle singled and moved to second on Jared Barnard’s single. Connor Pradere followed with a double, scoring Moyle and sending Barnard to third. Cody Azevedo followed with a sacrifice fly to score Barnard to make it 5-4. Krebs tied the game at 5 with a single, and was replaced on the base paths by Jesse Lopez.

Holton singled Lopez to second and Abel Carter walked to load the bases. Jace Keema singled home a run to make it 6-5, and then Moyle and Terek Been delivered two-run hits to cap the barrage.

Carson added one in the third, and held on as Galena scored in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.

Holton picked up the win.

Krebs led the offense with three hits, while Azevedo, Holton, Moyle, Been and Barnard added two each.
