PREP ROUNDUP Lynch leads Dayton at region meet

YERINGTON — Lettie Lynch qualified in four events — two individual and two relays — to lead the Dayton High track team at Saturday’s Division IA regionals at Yerington High School.

The top four finishers in each event qualified for next week’s state meet at Silverado High in Las Vegas.

Lynch won the 100 in 12.94, took second in the 200 in 26.44, ran a leg on the third-place 400 relay squad (52.75) and ran a leg on the fourth-place 800 relay squad (1:53.82).

Madison Foley posted a win in the high jump (5-2), was second in the 100 hurdles (16.64) and ran a leg on the 800 relay (1:53.82). Kaylee Turner took second in the shot (37-5 1/4) and second in the discus (112-9), while Ashley Vickers was second in the long jump (15-feet) and ran on both the 400 and 800-meter relay teams. Rybecca Fletcher was third in the triple jump at 30-8 1/2 and ran on the 400 relay team. Katrina Breithaupt qualified in the 3200 with a fourth-place finish (12:46.11). Devon Cates ran on both the 400 and 800 teams.

Joshua Koch led the boys with wins in the shot (50-6) and discus (151-5). Aaron Elissa won the 1600 in 4:40.17 and Benji Ply won the high jump with a leap of 6-2. Ply also qualified in the pole vault with a third-place mark of 12 feet. Josh Joyner was fourth in the shot at 45-4 1/2. Dayton’s 1600-meter relay team of Skyler Berntson, Julio Meza, Dallon Mendoza and Andrew Goodman was second in 3:30.32. Goodman qualified in the 400 by finishing third at 51.30.

The Dayton girls took third with 168 points and the boys were fourth with 129.5.

SWIMMING

TIGERS FARE WELL

Douglas High’s swim teams finished first and second at Saturday’s regionals at the Carson Aquatic Center.

The girls, led by Shelby Koontz and Shaelin Morefield, won the title with 370 points. Carson was fourth with 201. The Douglas boys took second with 406, three behind Reno. Carson was fourth at 238.

Koontz set two region records, clocking 24.18 in the 50 free and 51.22 in the 100 free. Morefield’s record came in the 100 fly (56.57). She also won the 200 IM (2:06.33).

Kyle Johnson won the 100 butterfly in 52.96 and thee 200 IM in 2:01.14. Savannah Chappell was third in the 100 back (1:03.83).

Douglas also qualified in three different relay races.

For Carson, Gary Showalter was second in the 100 breast (1:06.50) and swam a leg on the third-place medley relay team with Tallon Rauch, Casey Garrett and Dagen Kipling. Abi Pittman was third in the 500 free (5:30.7), Eli Everest was third in the 200 free (2:04.4) and Dagen Kipling was third in the 200 IM (2:08.57).
