Boys' Soccer: Tiger boys fall to McQueen

The Douglas boys' soccer team has hit crisis mode.

Less than 12 months after playing for the regional title and advancing to the state tournament, the Tigers are off to the worst start in the 29-year history of the program.

After a 6-2 loss at home against McQueen dropped Douglas to an 0-7-2 overall record Friday afternoon, coach Milko Vasquez was ready to make wholesale changes.

"We have to revamp everything we're doing," Vasquez said. "I'm bringing up a couple players from the JV level and we just have to change our approach to the game.

"We're continuing to have problems playing as a team."

Douglas trailed McQueen (which improved to 2-3 in league play with the win) only 2-1 late in the first half Friday but a quick pair of goals quickly put the game out of reach.

"After that, I felt like we just stopped playing the game," Vasquez said. "It was an embarassing moment for this program."

Douglas got on the board in the first half when Kegan Rahe assisted Mason Jackson on a nice goal.

In the second half, Jake Passas made a nice run up the middle, juked his defender and made a nice cross to Luis Sillas, who put the ball into the net.

"Those were the bright spots," Vasquez said. "I'm putting it on the seniors this week. This is a make-or-break week for us (with winless Manogue and league-leading Galena on the schedule). If we can't pull it together, our focus will turn toward developing for next year."
