Football: Coleville stops Wells

The Coleville football team moved to 2-0 in league play with a 60-6 victory over the hosting Wells Leopards Friday.

"I was very happy with the way we responded to our longest road game on the year," Coleville coach Will Sandy said. "We had to endure a 400-mile road trip, sleep on a gym floor and be ready for a 10 a.m. kickoff.

"We played nearly mistake free and I was especially happy with our tackling. We were once again able to clear the bench in the second half giving significant playing time to all our 24 players."

Coleville took control on the first series when junior tailback Buh Hamilton scored his first of four rushing touchdowns on the second play of the game on a 35-yard run. Hamilton scored on Coleville's next two series with runs of 16 and 44 yards to propel the Wolves to a 22-0 first quarter lead.

On the day, Hamilton rushed for 253 yards on 13 attempts.

Senior split end Emmi Sandoval had another productive offensive game scoring three times. Sandoval had touchdown receptions of 50 and 46 yards and scored on a 46-yard punt return.

Mat Randall also found the end zone once on a seven-yard touchdown reception.

Junior quarterback Josiah Huhta continued to impress, completing 10-of-15 passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns without an interception.

Coleville's defense dominated the game, holding Wells to only 61 yards of total offense. Senior linebacker Tyler Summers led the way with four solo tackles, 10 assists, and two sacks. Emmi Sandoval complimented his outstanding offensive game with a strong defensive performance, recording 9 solos, two assists and a sack. Shane Parker with three solos, nine assists, and one interception, Mat Randall with three solos, 10 assists, and two sacks and Austin Byers with two solos and 10 assists also were key defensive players for the Wolves. Sophomore Nathan Hershey set up the Wolves last touchdown of the game when he recovered a fumble on the Wells' 7-yard line.

Coleville will host Virginia City on Saturday with a 1 p.m. kickoff
