The Douglas County Historical Society's Haunted Weekend begins Thursday and continues through Oct. 24, with stories about early settlers' haunted sites, hangings, and murders.
The Haunted Minden Ghost Walk on Oct. 21 showcases Minden's famous past residents.
Events continue with the Haunted Gardnerville Ghost Walk on Oct. 22, and the Cemetery Tour on Oct. 23 at the Mottsville Cemetery, the oldest in Nevada. Haunted Weekend wraps up Oct. 24 with the Haunted Genoa Ghost Walk.
Tickets are $5 per person for each walk and are available at the Gardnerville museum. You may order by credit card at 782-2555. Hurry. The Ghost Walks always sell out early.
Next in the DCHS continuing lecture series on Nov. 11 is the Cordes cousins speaking about the book they collaborated on, "Frieda's Files." The book is a collection of historical short stories about Carson Valley written by Frieda Cordes Godecke, originally published as articles in The Record-Courier.
Those who have been here for a few years may remember the Carson Valley Days Parade float featuring the Cordes cousins dressed as the sassiest chickens ever seen. Or, you may remember the chickens as they served dinner for one of the melodramas. It seems these ladies have a myriad of talents and compiling a book is just one of them.
DCHS heartily recommends this book as it relates some of the best stories about the Valley. The lecture starts at 7 p.m. and copies of the book will be available afterward. Add this book to your collection or give it as a treasured gift.
