Lowering speed limit may not help

We doubt there would be much interest in lowering the speed limit entering Minden if motorists were actually going 35 mph.

But like most of Highway 395, there is a tendency to fudge the speed upward, especially when the law's not in sight.

As a business whose offices are on Highway 395, we live with the traffic every day. While location is important, access for someone having to cross two lanes of the highway to get in or out can be a challenge.

The main thoroughfare through Minden and Gardnerville is crowded and there are lots of people who like to exceed the 25 mph limit, much less the higher limits on either side of town.

We wish we could say the problem was just those crazy Californians or any number of other convenient scapegoats, but depending on the time of day and the mood of the motorist it could be any one of us at any time.

Decreasing the speed limit entering Minden isn't going to do much to slow down traffic if having a lower speed limit through the rest of town isn't going to.

The real solution lies in the future Muller Parkway which will give those motorists who are just passing through on their way to work or home an option to making their way through town.

We have no problem with lowering the speed limit to 25 mph on Highway 395 between the junction with Highway 88 and Lucerne Street. We just don't think it will make that much of a difference.
