A flood advisory was issued for Douglas County and Carson City by the National Weather Service after Doppler radar indicated a large area of rain over the area.
Heavy rainfall will swell flows for small streams this morning. Poorly drained urban areas may see ponding that could be a hazardous for motorists.
The Weather Service is asking that residents report flooding to local law enforcement.
Nearly a half inch of rain fell at Kingsbury Grade on Sunday. National Weather Service radar shows that as much as 1.3 inches of rain has fallen in the Sierra above Carson Valley. Western portions of the Valley have received up to .7 inches of rain in the storm.
The flooding advisory is set to expire at 8 a.m.
At least two power outages occurred during the rain storm.
According to a statement issued by the weather service, showers and thunderstorms will continue over Western Nevada today as a low pressure system moves into central California with abundant moisture and instability. Stronger showers and thunderstorms will produce heavy rain and small hail with rain amounts of .5 inches or more possible in a short period of time.
The low will move into the central and southern Sierra where it will park until Wednesday. Snow levels are expected to drop below 9,000 feet tonight and may drop down to 7,500 feet at times over Mono County.
In the high Sierra, several inches of snow are expected to accumulate later today and tonight affecting travel over the high mountain passes.
