Rescuers pull man from river

Douglas County rescuers pulled a man from the East Fork of the Carson River 8:20 p.m. Friday.

The man had jumped into the river and broken his ankle, according to Deputy Chief Dave Fogerson.

The man was clinging to a rock when rescuers arrived. Members of the Douglas County Search & Rescue team put a life vest on him and floated him down to a waiting stretcher.

It was the second swiftwater rescue call of the day. Mono County authorities sought aid from Douglas County earlier in the afternoon. That call was in the Walker River Canyon. Douglas was canceled after Mono successfully rescued the people.
