A 43-year-old Gardnerville Ranchos man is scheduled to appear in district court this morning to be sentenced on a check forging charge. Charles Matthews admitted last month that he participated in the embezzlement of more than $9,000 from the Village Motel in Gardnerville. The district attorney's office has agreed to recommend probation in lieu of 12-36 months in Nevada State Prison. Matthews also is to be responsible for $4,336 restitution.

The Dance Workshop of Minden is performing "The Clock Strikes Twelve" 7 p.m. tonight and Tuesday at the Carson City Community Center. Tickets are $15, and are available at the door or at the workshop, 1697 County Road in Minden. For information, call 782-8717.

It's the first day of summer, and the start of the National Weather Service's Hazardous Weather Week. Today they're focusing on lighting and severe thunder storms.
