Honoring the fallen

While the rest of us were enjoying Carson Valley Days, Gardnerville resident Sally Wiley was attending the ribbon cutting for the new Army Reserve center at Camp Parks in Dublin, Calif., named for her son Sean D. Diamond. She, Sean's wife Loramay and the couple's four children attended the ceremony on Saturday.

Sean was killed Feb. 15, 2009, when a bomb detonated near his vehicle.

The Staff Sgt. Sean D. Diamond Army Reserve Center was completed in April 2010.

Judi Muller-Hannon called me to point out some folks were left off my list of graduates from the Class of 1943, including Walt Muller and John Henningsen.

Also meeting with the group as they make their way around Valley restaurants is Frederick Dressler.

We received word that R-C alum and former columnist Ashley Noel Hennefer graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno, in May.

Ashley received a bachelor's degree in English literature and French.

She is planning on continuing her studies by attending graduate school.
