Would like to vote

EDITOR:

First I have to say that in general that I'm happy with the results of the primary election other than one person that who actually lives in my own neighborhood who I feel has not looked after our best interests. However, it would've been nice if I'd been able to vote.

OK, it might have been a slight bit of my not really thinking over why I received the same sample ballot as my husband but hey, life gets busy and after nearly nine years in Douglas County and no glitches I didn't expect one now and it did have my name on it correctly so really didn't expect a major screw-up with the county.

But as we all know, life gets busy even for us retirees and a lot has been going on in my life. When I gave it more thought and looked at the front of the sample ballot I found it said 'nonpartisan' which is wrong. My husband is registered nonpartisan but I am registered Republican (regardless of how I vote) so something got screwed up somewhere. The unfortunate thing was timing; I discovered this just as I was packing for a trip so I didn't have time to call (would not have time to get to the courthouse to make the change) and check on this until Monday when we returned and thus too late to do anything about someone else's goof.

When I called the county the gal (Judy) was totally mystified how the screw-up had happened but my only recourse is to go re-register - which will actually be a correction. Not a big deal but annoying that it is the only way to correct someone else's mistake. Kind of reminds me when living in California and our 1965 Corvair registration came back one year with the year listed as 1956 (before Corvair's were even made); that date actually remained on the title as we were not going to pay extra to re-register it with the correct year.

Okay, my vote only numbered one, but this makes me wonder how many other glitches have been made like this without voters noticing. It is too late for the primary but any future sample ballots should be looked at carefully.
