The Carson Valley Improvement Club has decided to celebrate Carson Valley Day with a big dance to be held at Minden June 11th. The regular celebration that has been marked the advent of Carson Valley for the past several years will be dispensed with this year and all efforts will be confined to make the dance a great success. Baker's orchestra will furnish the music for the occasion.

A rodeo in which wild-eyed high bucking mustangs and outlaw horses will be featured is June 14th and 15th, along with the riding of wild steers, pony races, stake races, and roping. The promoters have secured a new string of bucking horses for the rodeo, and Sunny Side Up, characterized as a side-winder and the toughest specimen of horseflesh that ever was saddled, will make the going tough for the riders. Other horses that no nothing but buck will make up the string, and the people of this community are assured that the two days will be crammed full of thrills and spills.

Manford "Manny" Beals has been found in contempt of a 1977 court order requiring him to remove signs from his Cave Rock business. District Judge Michael Fondi ruled that Beals had violated Judge Stanley Smart's order "by putting more signs up without lawful authority." Fondi fined Beals $500 and told him to remove "all nonconforming signs" within five days. If the signs aren't removed, Fondi said that Beals would be arrested and fined $100 per day until the order is complied with.

The theme for the 90th anniversary of Carson Valley Days is "A tribute to the Basque Culture." The Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club #85, the service club which organizes and produces Carson Valley Days, selects a theme each year to draw attention and pay tribute to some aspect of the community we call home. This year the club elected to honor the many members of the Basque community for their contributions and rich heritage in the Carson Valley.
