The R-C Morning Report

Firefighters had a good day on the Mono fire thanks to calm winds. There's a line nearly two-thirds around it and they look good for the Friday containment date. Highway 120 is still closed, as are the day use areas on the southern part of Mono Lake. I'm going to assume there isn't much left of the Potato fire near Bridgeport because nobody's updating the information. Last we heard was that it was 70 percent contained.

The Bull fire's still burning near Kernville, but it doesn't look like it's generating a lot of smoke this morning. While the plume for the fire is pointed north, it's not even getting out of the southern Sierra.

Gardnerville Elementary School janitor Joe Roybal is going to go to rehab on his own nickel. The 49-year-old was on a meth toot the weekend his mother died. He found her on that Monday morning and called the authorities, who arrested him for being under the influence.

A fire weather watch kicks starts Friday in the Sierra Front as humidity drops to 5-15 percent and gusty winds 15-20 mph with gusts of up to 35 mph arrive. The National Weather Service says the combination will create critical fire weather conditions.

Expect sunny skies and highs in the low 90s today with lows in the upper 40s. The forecast doesn't look like it will change that much over the weekend, only windier.
