Road controls continue in the Sierra, including chains or four-wheel drive required over Interstate 80 and Highway 88 and snow tires or chains required over Highway 50. Chains or snow tires are required around most of the Lake, but are strangely absent from Kingsbury Grade.

A California man who was caught with a quarter-pound of methamphetamine in a potato chip bag faces up to 15 years in prison in Douglas County District Court this morning. Francisco Reyes-Vizcarra of Pollock Pines was arrested Nov. 10 in Stateline by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office after a month-long investigation into his drug trafficking activities. Reyes-Vizcarra has been deported four times for criminal activity.

The National Weather Service posted the snow totals for last week, and there were some pretty substantial amounts. A co-op observer reported 10 inches of snow fell Jan. 17-22 in Minden. Daggett Pass received 23 inches of snow at the same time and an even foot of snow fell in Glenbrook. Kirkwood received 84 inches of snow during the week, and Boreal got 94 inches.

A couple of traffic incidents occurred on Sunday as the storm picked up.There was a vehicle accident with injury at Highway 50 and Spooner Summit at 4:37 p.m. A big rig without chains tried to make it over Highway 88 at about 5 p.m. and got stuck at the bottom of Red Lake Grade.

An allegedly warmer storm rolls in this afternoon. The snow level is supposed to rise above 6,000 feet, with a chance of locally heavy rainfall in the lower elevations. Today's high is forecast to hit 42 degrees.
