The R-C Morning Report: Stormwatch

Chains or snow tires are being required on Highway 395 just south of Walker north to Carson and then where the highway climbs Duck and Washoe hills; Highway 50 from Carson City to South Lake Tahoe, Kingsbury Grade, pretty much all around the Lake and anywhere else it takes you above 6,000 feet. Highway 88 is closed between Silver Lake and Kirkwood. Chains or four-wheel drive are required on Interstate 80 and Highway 50. Douglas school buses are running this morning.

Watch out for an injury accident in the northbound lanes of the Highway 395 bypass and Carson Street. The accident occurred at 5:38 a.m.

I'm estimating another inch of light powder fell overnight, though it's hard to tell because the wind has been blowing, so it could be less. Heavenly is reporting a foot of new snow on the mountain. It's 31 degrees out, so be careful on your way into work, because it's pretty slick outside.

This storm isn't done with us by a long-shot, according to National Weather Service forecasters, who've issued a winter storm watch. Another cold front is expected to bring heavy snow and gusty winds into the area early Tuesday morning. There's a possibility for up to another 3 inches of snow between 4 and 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
