Pets should be trivial

Record-Courier, I rolled my eyes when I saw the front page on Christmas Day. A giant photo of an ugly pit bull-type dog, along with a barf-inducing article about sixth-graders donating blankets to pound mutts. Christmas is not for animals. It's a holiday for people. Pets should be trivial. Off the radar. It is very disheartening to read where this "pet project" beat out much more noble causes such as planting trees or donating toys to needy kids.
