Stormy weather predicted to return today

Snow and rain is expected to develop again this afternoon and evening in Western Nevada, according to a special statement issued by the National Weather Service.

An upper low pressure zone is forecast to move from Central California into Arizona, according to the Weather Service. Snow levels are predicted to hover just above the lower valley floors with accumulations of snow mainly above 5,500 feet, where several inches of snow will fall. Expect local travel issues along Highway 395 and connecting roadways in Mono County.

Wind speeds of up to 102 mph were recorded at Mammoth Mountain at 6 p.m. Friday, with Coleville reporting a gust of 66 mph at 12:47 p.m.

Highway 88 is closed at Silver Lake for avalanche control. Both Highway 50 and Interstate 80 are open over the Sierra with no controls. Chains or snow tires are being required on Highway 395 south of Walker and on the Mount Rose Highway.

Half an inch of rain fell in the Gardnerville Ranchos on Friday. So far .18 inches have fallen today, according to Meneley Elementary School's weather station. The weather station at the Fish Springs Volunteer Fire Station recorded .8 inches of rain fell since 2:33 p.m. Friday.
