James Hawley Estabrook

Former Douglas County Chief Juvenile Probation Officer and owner and operator of Estabrook Tree Works, James Hawley Estabrook, 71, died Feb. 13, 2010, in Grass Valley, Calif., after two years battling colon cancer.

Born March 25, 1938, in Sacramento, Mr. Estabrook was a jack of all trades, with more than 25 different jobs over his lifetime ranging from lifeguard, printer for California Assembly, firefighter, sergeant-at-arms, drug abuse program director as well as chief probation officer and a business owner.

He is survived by brothers Stan, Bob, and Clifford Estabrook; ex-wife Christa Estabrook-Knutson of Gardnerville; children Bernd (Heidi) Estabrook of Jacksonville, Ill., Inge (Peter) Costa of Minden and Steven Estabrook of Gardnerville; grandchildren Carson Costa, Thomas and Jacob Estabrook, and Haley Estabrook and partner Coquelicot Gilland.
